Q: Exactly how far is the Hotel from the ski lift?
A: From our front door to the Akakura Kanko gondola station is about forty meters. The gondola station is also where you can exchange your ski ticket vouchers for lift passes. About thirty metres further on is the Triple chair lift.

Q: Which ski fields can I easily get to from the hotel?
A: Apart from Akakura Kanko, which is right above the hotel, the Akakura Onsen ski field is accessible by free ski bus, or by skiing from the Kanko ski area. Other areas which can be reached by the free bus are Ikenotaira Onsen (9 minutes on the free bus) and Myoko Suginohara (28 minutes on the free bus). The free bus departs and returns every hour@from within 30 meters of the hotel. Other fields within a taxi ride include Pine Valley and Tagram.

Q: Can I get my lift passes from you?
A: Yes, and we try to supply them at a better price.

Q: Do I have to have dinner at the hotel?
A: No, and if you choose to eat dinner elsewhere, we will give you a reduction of JPY1,500 in the daily rate, but you must give us 24 hours notice if you do not want dinner. There are many local restaurants. (But we find that patrons tend to come back to us fairly quickly after a night or two!)

Q: How do I get to the Hotel Moc from Narita Airport?
A: There are fast trains from Narita to Tokyo (about an hour), where you change for the Shinkansen (Bullet Train) to Nagano (about ninety minutes). From there a train to Myoko Kogen takes fifty minutes, and then a local taxi just a few minutes to the hotel and costs about 1800yen. Fares are at http://www.jreast.co.jp/e/index.html, or you could think about a JR East 4 day Flexible Rail Pass http://www.jreast.co.jp/e/eastpass/index.html which is probably cheaper when travelling from Narita, as it covers the Narita Express, the Shinkansen to Nagano, and the train to Myoko Kogen.

Q: Can we travel to or from other ski fields, a little further away?
A: Yes, the Myoko Kogen Tourist Authority has negotiated special rates for taxi transfers to or from nearby ski areas, including Hakuba, Shiga Kogen and Naeba. These are mini buses or station wagons, suitable for transporting skis and snowboards. Fares and details can be found at http://keinanbus.com/english/index_e.htm

Q: Can I pay you with a credit card?
A: Yes, we accept VISA, MasterCard, AMEX and Diners card.

Q: What can I do if I get bored with skiing?
A: In this unlikely event there are a number of beautiful areas to see, including lakes and temples, and the Olympic City of Nagano is a short train ride away. The hot spring snow monkeys can also be seen within a comfortable day trip.

Q: Do you have much wildlife around?
A: Plenty, although quite a bit will be hibernating or sleeping if you visit in winter. However monkeys that live in the snow are active in winter and you will see the tracks of many other nocturnal animals.

Q: Do you have western-style rooms?
A: Yes, all of our rooms have single and twin western beds, all with ensuite bathrooms (some with toilet only, some with toilet and shower). We have both smoking and non-smoking rooms available.

Q: How would you describe your food?
A: We provide quality traditional Japanese food with an emphasis on seafood, as we are near to the Sea of Japan. If you wish we can instead cook some western dishes, but we suggest that you try our well regarded Japanese dinners. At lunch the restaurant is open to the public and a number of noodle, curry, miso and rice based dishes are offered, suitable for that lunch ski break.. Homemade cake is also available throughout the day. Residents of the hotel get a 100 yen discount on lunches.

Q: Can you rent skis and gear?
A: Yes, we have a ski rental shop in the hotel, but the larger sizes are in short supply as most Japanese use sizes which are small by western standards.

Q: How can I book?
A: Let us know when and what you want. We will send you back a quote. If you then proceed we will need a credit card. You can cancel at any time without penalty. If you do not arrive on the agreed date your card will be charged for one night's rate.

Q: What is the layout of the hotel?
A: On the basement level, we have the ski locker and drying room, the male and female hot bath rooms, and the wax room in which you can wax your skis or snowboard. On the first level is the restautrant, vending machines, and the ski rental shop. On the second level is the lobby, some changing rooms, and a few guest rooms. The third and fourth level are all guest rooms. There is also a free washing machine and tumble dryer (Y100) on the third level.

Q: Are there shops and restaurants nearby?
A: Yes, there are a number of restaurants nearby, and also a convenience store 10 meters away.

Q: Can I ski back to the hotel?
A: Yes, you can ski to within 10 meters of the front door using the Akakura Kanko ski Field.

Q: Can I make tea and coffee?
A: Yes, we have western style kettles, tea and coffee in the rooms.
